Canadian Fab: (L to R) Canadian Pairs Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro and fellow Canadian Ice Dance couple Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier--2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, Bordeaux France

Continuing with my Costumes Recap of this past weekend's 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, in my last post HERE, I talked about the LADIES and MEN, and now it's time to discuss the PAIRS and ICE DANCE costumes...

Let's begin with the PAIRS:
Top Three: (L to R) Bronze medalists Xuehan Wang and Lei Wang of China, the gold medalists from Russia Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov, and the silver medalists from China Sui Wenjing and Han Cong--2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, Bordeaux France

Stolbova and Klimov of Russia: The gold medalists wore these costumes--for their Short program and Free Skates--both of which I LOVED--Read HERE for what I thought.

Xuehan Wang and Lei Wang of China Free Skate: To their Free Skate to "My Fair Lady" by Frederick Loewe, this Pairs couple wore these costumes. I thought they were pretty and just right for each skater. I especially liked how dapper he looked.

Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim of the USA: For their Free Skate to "An American in Paris" by George Gershwin, they wore these costumes above. I loved his costume--it was very Gene Kelly. Seriously, look at the movie's poster: same costume!  I just thought her costume was a tad bit too "Figure Skating 101" and could have been a bit more "Period" to reflect the film.

Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres of France: For their Short program to "La Cumparsita - Tango Selection", this French Pairs couple wore this red and black costumes echoing the theme of the music. I thought hers was a bit "Toddlers & Tiaras" un-refined but his was HOT HOT HOT. That neckline is SERIOUSLY plunging! I wish I knew how to say that en francais!

Free Skate to "Angels and Demons" (soundtrack) by Hans Zimmer, "Heaven and Hell" by Vangelis, and "Requiem for a Dream" (soundtrack) by Clint Mansell which also happened to be the same Free Skate music they skated to for their previous 2013-2014 season. When they skated at 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, I thought I was having a "Costume Deja Vu" moment but in actuality, it was the music that made me feel that way. Not sure how common it is for skaters to skate to the same music for consecutive seasons but I'm sure one of my BLOG readers could enlighten me on this. Now, back to the costumes--while their music was the same as last season, their costumes, alas, were not. Vanessa stayed in the "Angel" theme with a white sequined with illusion costume and Morgan was the sexy demon with his plunging neckline silver-gray and black costume. By the way...

This above is what they wore last season for their Free Skate to the same music. I kind of liked these costumes a bit better. I also notice that Morgan is consistent with his "plunging neckline" costumes--whether it be for Short Program or Free Skate. And I'm happy for that. It still baffles me how her costume designers cannot get illusion to match her skin color. But I will say that I am always a fan of their costumes and excited to see what they will wear.

Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro of Canada: For their Free Skate to "Chess" (musical) by Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA this Canadian Pairs couple wore chess-inspired costumes--with sequins (of course they did!). I really liked these costumes for their bold colors, graphic designs and I was especially fond of Michael's asymmetrical neckline.

ICE DANCE:

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France: My "Greek sister from another Mister" Gabriella Papadakis and her very sexy Ice Dance partner Guillaume Cizeron are my new FAVE Ice Dance couple. #LoveThem. I've already discussed these Free Dance costumes, so if you want to know what I thought, click HERE. But I haven't commented on their Short Dance ones...

Paso Doble and Flamenco Short Dance to "Escobilla" by Christina Hoyos and "Farruca" by Christina Hoyos, Papadakis and Cizeron wore these costumes above. I thought they were modern, chic and almost "punk" in their severity. Loved her open back and sexy lace and faux leather front torso detail. And I also liked his faux leather cummerbund/belt detail. Très bien!

Charlene Guinard and Marco Fabbri of Italy: For their Free Dance to (Take a big guess!) "Lord of the Dance" by Ronan Hardiman, "Reel Around the Sun" by Bill Whelan, "Nocturne" by Secret Garden and "Warriors" by Ronan Hardiman, this Italian Ice Dance couple went decidedly very "Lord of the Dance". It was kitschy and fun, but I wonder if costume designer could ever challenge themselves to do "Lord of the Dance" and not look well, soooooo Lord of the Dance !!??

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue of the USA: Hubbell and Donohue skated their Free Dance to selections from "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack including  "Young and Beautiful" by Lana del Rey, "Back to Black" by Beyonce & Andre 3000, "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" by Fergie, "Gatsby Believed in the Green Light" by Tobey Maguire. I loved that these were modern and sooo UN_Gatsby-esque. They--and their costume designer--took it to another level and that, I appreciated. There were "hints" of 1920s Art Deco details (in her bandeaux top) but everything else was unique and so not referential.

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada: I want to start with their Free Dance Costumes...For their Free Dance to "A Street Car Named Desire", Overture from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "Si tu voi ma mere" by Sidney Bechet, and "Dans les rues d'Antibes" by Sidney Bechet, Gilles and Poirier wore these costumes above. Both his and hers were on point with the music and theme. I liked his cropped shawl-collar dinner jacket ensemble although he was two minutes from looking like a waiter at a fancy restaurant. Piper's stretch charmeuse deep violet gown was gorgeous; retro, 1930s period costume-esque and still quite red carpet chic. But for me the COSTUME STARS  were the Short Dance costumes:

Paso Doble and Spanish Waltz Short Dance to "El Gato Montes" and "Capriccio Espagnol" by Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov-- One word: WOW. Oh, and FABULOSO!!!! So I guess that's two words. First of all, his Toreador was EVERYTHING; gorgeous, sexy, traditional. It was a great mix of Spanish bullfighter and Mexican Mariachi.  But, seriously, Piper's costume--with the raspberry-colored skirt "cape" mimicking the Toreador's/bullfighter's cloak PLUS that eyeliner makeup of hers...I literally was shaking on my sofa when I saw it!

Toreador Diva...and Divo: THE BEST EVER!!!!

Earth's Beauty: Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell of the Philippines

The 14th edition of "Miss Earth" was held on Saturday in the University of the Philippines Theater in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. 85 contestants from all over the world competed and the winner was "Miss Earth Philippines" 20 year-old Jamie Herrell...

Here are some "101's" of the Miss Earth pageant (in case you're out of the "Miss Earth" loop): *The "Miss Earth" motto is "Beauties for a Cause" and its homebase is the Philippines.
*It is Organized by Carousel Productions.
*The Miss Earth pageant promotes environmental awareness and is considered one of the Grand Slam Four international pageants--which also includes Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.
*The reigning titleholders dedicate their year to promote specific projects and often address issues concerning the environment and other global issues

And The Winner Is: Photos of the moment when Jamie was announced as "Miss Earth 2014"--Miss Earth 2014 Coronation Night, Quezon City, Philippines

The 20 year-old, 5' 7" (1.70 M) tall Filipina beauty was born in California, but raised in Placer in the province of Masbate, Philippines. Jamie is an Acting student at the International Academy of Film and Television at the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City Philippines. According to the Miss Philippines Earth website, she is also an advocate of animal rights cruelty. She was a big favorite to win the crown--especially in her home country.

Water, Air and Fire: Besides the top "Miss Earth" crown, her court of finalists also got their own titles--(L-R) "Miss Earth Water" Maira Alexandra Rodriguez of Venezuela; "Miss Earth 2014" Jamie Herrell of the Philippines; "Miss Earth Air" Andrea Neu of USA, and "Miss Earth Fire" Anastasia Trusova of Russia--Miss Earth 2014 Coronation Night, Quezon City, Philippines

The Pageant: This year's Finals was produced quite well--and done very professionally and on the same par of a "Miss Universe" or "Miss World". This is the first time I had watched "Miss Earth" and as an avid beauty pageant fan, I was quite impressed. I watched the pageant via a LiveStream (you can see the entire pageant HERE).

Asia's Best Costumes: the top three Best Costumes from Asia for "Miss Earth 2014 National Costumes" (L to R) Bronze (3rd Place) Miss India, Gold (1st Place) Miss Indonesia and 2nd Place Miss Philippines

Now, let's get to the fun stuff: the Costumes and the EVENING GOWNS! First up the always fun National Costumes highlights. The "Miss Earth 2014" national costume presentation occurred earlier in the week on Tuesday at the Green Sun Hotel and not during Saturday night's Coronation night but I wanted to include photos of some of my favorites--

And the "Extra Baggage Fees for Packing a National Costume" award goes to...Miss Earth India Alankrita Sahai

And now, let's talk EVENING GOWNS--The Top 16 Semi-Finalists--beginning with...
All photos courtesy of Rappler.com

The eventual winner, Miss Earth Philippines Jamie Herrell: Jamie wore a red sequined gown accented with nude illusion side torso panels, back and sleeves. This was a very impacting gown for Jamie, especially the deep cherry red color which looked strong against her skin and hair color.
My gown score: 9.4

Miss Earth Venezuela Maira Alexandra Rodriguez: First, a little Pageant Dish--Maira Alexandra was just crowned "Miss Earth Venezuela" in last month's "Miss Venezuela 2014" pageant. She was actually not the one who was supposed to represent Venezuela in this year's "Miss Earth" but it was supposed to be her predecessor...

Stephanie de Zozi (seen above at the "Miss Venezuela 2013" pageant--she was crowned "Miss Earth Venezuela 2013" but hadn't competed in the "Miss Earth" as of yet. But Miss Venezuela's Pageant Cazar, Osmel Sousa, decided not to send her because she was deemed "too fat" so...Maira got to go--with only 3 weeks notice!

Now, let's discuss Maira's white gown at the "Miss Earth 2014" pageant: It was one of my favorites of the 16 Semi-Finalists. Her one shoulder ivory silk crepe and tulle gown was from designer Julio Mora. I liked the gown and especially the crystals strategically strewn throughout the gown's neckline, sleeve, and side. This was the same gown she competed in at last month's "Miss Venezuela". If there was any critique it was the matching sequined platform pumps. I would rather have loved to see silver strappy heels with no platform.
My gown score: 9.5

Miss Earth USA Andrea Neu: I thought Andrea looked like a Goddess in this white gathered chiffon gown with fitted silver sequined midriff and side front slit. This gown really showcased her figure well and made for an impacting look.
My gown score: 9.4

Miss Earth Spain Zaira Bas: Sexy, hot...the Spanish Lady in Red. I liked this gown choice of red chiffon with gathered front held up by a red sequin applique detail. The front was covered yet the back was completely open.
My gown score: 9.3

Miss Earth Slovak Republic Daria Fabrici: Daria wore a beautiful sequined black gown that had expensive-looking bugle bead bodice detail and sequined chiffon skirt. If there was any critique, it's that when she did some side poses, there was some side-boob spillage which took her Classy factor down a couple of notches.
My gown score: 9.2

Miss Earth Russia Anastasia Trusova: I loved the deep lilac color of this gown, the side cowl draping and the applique bodice. The style was unique and almost Russian Tzarina-like. What I didn't like where those Stripper Platform Pumps: A big No-No.
My gown score: 9.0

Miss Earth Egypt Nancy Magdy: Nancy wore this red sequined gown for the Finals of Saturday night's "Miss Earth 2014". It was a nice looking gown and the bead work looked expensive. On stage, it was a teeny-bit too tight on her, especially around the hips. But overall, a nice choice for Miss Earth Egypt, who surprised everyone as one of the Top 16 (maybe not a surprise, since her country was one of only 6 nations who televised the event--maybe her placement was a "Thank You" from the pageant's organizers to Mehwar TV Egypt).
My gown score: 8.9

Miss Earth Colombia Alejandra Villafane: This gown was an interesting choice for Alejandra. The dress featured a sheer lace-and-sequined tulle layer with a nude bodysuit underneath. At first I thought that I may not like this but I ended up becoming a fan. It was sexy but not vulgar.
My gown score: 8.9

Miss Earth Brazil Leticia Silva: Leticia's gown was a bit too "Pageant Store" typical for me; it lacked uniqueness and that special "something" to make it seem as this was a one-of-a-kind made-for-her gown. The inner flared mini was also a bit odd peeking out from the longer overskirt.
My gown score: 8.7

Miss Earth Japan Reina Nagata: Very sexy gown choice for "Miss Earth Japan". This strapless white lace applique gown with nude tulle showed her great figure but at one point when she lifted the gown to get down the stairs, I was scared she was going to show TOO MUCHEEY (notice where the applique stops and tulle begins near her you-know-what).
My gown score: 8.7

Miss Earth Mongolia Tugsuu Idersaikhan: I liked this gown for its beautiful blue color and beading. The color was gorgeous on Tugsuu. But the shape did NOTHING for her. For some reason, the bodice lacked waist definition and well, made her look THICK (which she is not).
My gown score: 8.7

Miss Earth Mexico Yareli Carillo: Yes kids, another red gown (a very popular choice at "Miss Earth 2014"). While this one shoulder fitted gown with back overskirt certainly had a strong DRAMA factor on stage, it was A LOT and the red satin fabrication looked cheap and polyester-y. And then, if the gown wasn't enough, she added a crystal choker plus a matching bracelet. Ayyy No Mija!
My gown score: 8.4

Miss Earth Thailand Sasi Sintawee: Wow. "Oh No She Didn't" Wow. Sasi really went for it in this creation. And when I say she went for it, IT was A LOT. There's the red color, the sequined gown plus the chiffon back piece plus the nude illusion bodice panel, the side front slit the earrings and then, if that wasn't enough, there were "Devil"-like horns on her biceps. I admit, it's a bit Gown Cray-Cray but...I still liked it just for the total unabashed chutzpah it took to wear this and for the probable fact that EVERY Drag Queen in Thailand was applauding her for it. But yeah, it's still a HOT MESS.
My gown score: 8.4

Miss Earth Zambia Cartier Zagorski: GURL!!!! Someone must have been watching the most recent MOSCHINO Spring 2015 "Barbie" Collectionone too many times on YouTube. Bubblegum pink, one shoulder, mermaid-shape with plastic and silver lame tiered skirts. Oh and then there's a back poly chiffon "cape" PLUS Indian-style forehead beading. I think it's quite FAB for a Barbie 50th Anniversary gala but for the evening gown competition of an international beauty pageant...a bit TOO MUCHEEY.
My gown score: 8.2

Miss Earth Tahiti Hereata Ellard: Hareata wore this white gown with silver mirror-like accents. On a good note: she's so pretty. Now, about the gown: It was a bit Roman Toga-esque in its style which also had a back attached cape and (if you can see), an under skirt with that aforementioned mirrored trim and asymmetrical hem (??). This could have been a fabulous gown--in the hands of a really good fashion designer. But here, it looks a bit "Happy Hands at Home". Oh, and yeah, it was too short and the fabric looked like cheap satin from a Downtown L.A. fabric store.
My gown score: 7.9

Miss Earth Scotland Romy McCahill: Speaking of cheap fabric (Sorry Miss Earth Scotland), what is happening here with Romy's gown?? The dress was all things A MESS; the too-high sweetheart neckline, the illusion Figure Skating Costume torso detail, and then...the ripply seams, the badly fitted sides and worst of all, the WRINKLED poly satin! Did her backstage dressers take a break from steaming? Pobrecita, as we say in Spanish. She's such a pretty girl but wow, this was a major Gown No-No.
My gown score: 6.0

Hold Up That Skirt Huney: (L to R) Miss South Africa 2014 Rolene Strauss and Debora Menicucci Miss World Venezuela 2014 and their "National Costumes"--Miss World 2014

The Miss World 2014 beauty pageant has begun and all the 124 (yes, you read right, ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR!) contestants are in London for the big final event--which will occur next month on December 14th at the ExCeL London--and exhibitions and conventions center-- in London, United Kingdom. The contestants vying for the title of Miss World 2014 arrived a week ago...

Miss World 2013 Megan Young of the Philippines with the "Miss World 2014" contestants, London England, UK

One of their many activities and pre-final events/contests involve a Dances of the World where contestants are shown during the finals--in their national costumes--displaying a particular dance native to their land. It's kind of an unofficial "National Costume" segment.

Costume Gals: Miss World 2014 contestants get ready for their "Dances of the World" auditions--Miss World 2014

Some of the costumes worn by the contestants have been "leaked" via the internets and, in addition, we have gotten glimpses via the "Miss World" website's "Dances of the World" gallery so here are some highlights:
Miss World South Africa Rolene Strauss: Rolene is one of the top faves to win the crown (according to pageant fanatics). Her costume has caused quite a stir, persuading both excitement and criticism. Some pageant bloggers have said it actually borders on tastelessness. The dress has an image of Nelson Mandela in the centre with a mix of print-on-print on Ndebele and Zulu beading on colorful images. The costume was designed by four students from the Cape Town College of Fashion Design, with an additional 12 helping. This may be a case of "Too many cooks in the kitchen". Understandingly, there's A LOT but my biggest offense are the stacked black platform pumps. Seriously???!!

Miss World Philippines Valerie Weigmann: For the "Miss World 2014" Dances of the World, Valerie chose to wear a Filipino traditional malong. She also "accessorized" this with a T’boli Hegalong guitar, according to the normannorman.com blog
Miss World Venezuela 2014 Debora Menicucci: Debora is wearing a colorful and multi-tiered, applique and sequined "Llanera" costume--a "Ranch Diva" costume. I think she looks fabulous and I love the neck-piece and hair accessory.
Miss World Australia Courtney Thorpe: Courtney Thorpe's costume has also been a source of criticism and polarizing views; her first original costume--a khaki pants suit based on the ANZAC women’s uniform--was not well received but this one has gotten better reviews. The costume pays homage to women who worked in agriculture during World War II to maintain numbers of land and

fight food shortages and was designed by Julie Sufi of Belluccio. I think she looks great.I especially love the sequined touches to the chiffon shirt's collar and sleeve hems.
Miss World Finland Krista Haapalainen: Krista is wearing a one shoulder blue and white gown that pays tribute to the fact that her country is the land of 1,000 lakes and Finland's national bird is a swan. So...yeah, this a "Swan/Lake" National costume.
o gymnastics, to liven things u
Miss World Fiji Charlene Tafuna'i: The costume for Miss Fiji was designed and made by Andrew Powell and Aisea Konrote. It was inspired by one of Fiji's unique parrot species which is endemic to the islands of Kadavu and Ono in the Kadavu group. The costume's headpiece draws inspiration from the "lakalaka", a traditional dance of the Lau people. The kula bird is the inspiration behind the creation of Miss Fiji’s national costume.
Miss World Mongolia Battsetseg Turbat: Here is Miss World Mongolia in her costume during the "Dances of the World" Auditions
Miss World Poland Ada Sztajerowska: Two words--Queen & Swan. I love this. I have no idea what significance this has with Poland but whatever it is, it's pretty FAB!

Miss World Thailand Nonthawan Thongleng: I think this is a very elegant interpretation of a traditional Thai costume; it has elements of a Thai Borom Bhiman dress but that ball gown skirt adds a very theatrical "King and I" touch
Miss World Vietnam Nguyen Thi Loan: According to the Tuoitrenews.ven site,  Miss World Vietnam's costume is a ao dai called “Long Vu Khuc” (The Dance of a Dragon) for the "Miss World 2014" beauty pageant. According to local designer Vo Viet Chung, who created the ao dai, the gown tells a tale of Vietnamese people’s origin, feudal reigns, and the long-cherished grace throughout the country’s 4,000-year history and culture. The costume boasts the dominant colors of red and yellow, which are prominently featured on the Vietnamese national flag.

The costume’s two stylized sleeves feature several layers of cloth which are twisted together the way khan mo qua (a piece of traditional head-wear used by northern Vietnamese women) is made. Chung noted the yellow decorative patterns on the outfit’s front are designed as scales of dragons, which are representative of the kings and their absolute power in the past. Another highlight is the headgear, which is inspired by non quai thau (a large, tray-shaped head-wear item popular among women in the northern province of Bac Ninh).

Miss World Japan Hikaru Kawai: Hikaru--as seen above--wore a colorful silk Geisha Kimono ensemble accessorized with a beautiful fan--for the "Miss World 2014" Dances of the World audition.

Stay tuned here on my BLOG for more "Miss World 2014" posts!!!

Very Good and Uh OH Gowns: (L to R) Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann and Miss Switzerland Dijana Cvijetic--"Miss World 2014" Top Model and World Designer Dress Runway Show

TheMiss World 2014 beauty pageant activities are happening in London as I type this blog. One of the most "fashionable" ones--the "Miss World 2014 Top Model/ World Designer Dress" fashion show/presentation occurred last week. All the 124 contestants modeled fashions--cocktail and evening gowns--to then be a Finalist in the Miss World Top Model--as well as award the "Best in Gown" award to the Fashion Designer whom the contestant was wearing in the evening gown portion. Out of all the contenders, the Top World Designer Dress prize went to...

Miss India Koyal Rana and her gown, designed by by Falguni and Shane Peacock--She wore a shimmering gold, copper and silver sequined gown which I am sure weighed A TON and looked quite splendid on her.

Out of the Top 20 Miss World 2014 "Top Model" Finalists, here are the gowns I liked the most:

Miss Australia Courtney Thorpe: Loved this aqua blue column gown featuring sequined shoulder detail and falling chiffon pieces. The gown made quite a statement and it reminded me of a dress one of my favorite style muses, the Sheikha Mozah of Qatar, would wear.

Miss Dominican Republic Dhio Moreno: Great choice for Dhio in this black sequined column gown with illusion/netting insets. She looked very statuesque and very "Red Carpet" ready. I don't think the silver bouffant headpiece/trim was necessary, however; the gown was EVERYTHING.

Miss Mongolia Battsetseg Turbat: A lovely choice for a gown from "Miss World Mongolia". The nude tulle and electric blue applique gown was very impacting and fitted her nicely. If there was any critique, the front may have been about 5 inches too short. But I did love the color and leaf-like applique and waist satin tie.

Miss Namibia Brumhilda Ochs: Yes, kids her name is Brumhilda! And I love her! She is like a Supermodel who should go to Milan as soon as her time in London is done! (in the event she doesn't win the "Miss World 2014" title!). Great gown, FABULOUS pose! Her shoulders are amazing and I love how well this gown fits. Also, normally, I would not think such a big necklace was necessary but Brumhilda makes it work!

Miss Puerto Rico Genesis Davila: Genesis wears a perfectly pretty gown here. It fits her nicely and is both "Pageant Fab" and right for her. I even like the big ol' bouffant with this look. It may not be something one would see at a Paris Haute Couture runway show (the hair style or this gown) but she worked it nonetheless and got my "Great Gown" vote!

Miss Russia Anastasia Kostenko: Anastasia made it into the Top 20 of the "Miss World 2014 Top Model" and I also liked this ivory and silver crystal off-the-shoulder gown of hers. It looked expensive and well done, fit her nicely and she looked quite sweet yet still "unapproachable" in it.

Miss  South Africa Rolene Strauss: The top favorite to win the "Miss World 2014" crown continued her streak of "well done" by wearing this gorgeous ivory scooped neck gown with scroll-like detail. Her side-swept hairstyle was on-point and so was the fact that she didn't overdo it in the accessories department. I also love that the gown length is PERFECT. The long sleeves still play into the whole "Miss World" winners must be sweet and nice--she's the Wife NOT the Mistress, of International Beauty Pageants.

Miss Turkey Amine Gulse: I thought Amine's halter neck white and silver gown was a nice silhouette and style for her. The shimmery color worked very well against her skin and hair. I also loved that she styled it with a center-parted slicked modern hairstyle as well.

Miss Haiti Carolyn Desert: Out of the 20 "Top Model" finalists, Miss World Haiti was my last favorite--in terms of the gowns they wore. I thought this was a very creative design that didn't go toward the "National Costume" direction. One would normally think that light-wash denim, tartan plaid and lace applique would NOT under any circumstances work...but here it is all proved wrong. I really liked this gown and I guess, it helped that it was being worn by the super stunning shaved-head "Miss World Haiti".

Here are some of my other FAVORITE Gown designs from contestants who did not make the Top Model--as well as the "World Designer Dress"--cut:
Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann: Valerie wore a creme and lemon yellow ball gown that was exquisite. It was very Couture and very 1950s Old Hollywood Glamour. Her slicked back hair and classic makeup finished to perfection the entire overall look. How Valerie--or this beautiful gown-- didn't make the cut is beyond me.

Miss Thailand Nonthawan Thongleng: Another yellow gown--this time from "Miss World Thailand". I thought that this was a beautiful gown design I loved the side pleated draping on the ball gown skirt, the fabric looked expensive and NOT polyester and the style was classic yet still dramatic and directional. I also liked her chic modern hairstyle.

Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit: I loved Miss United States' dramatic gown. The Watteau-like back was EVERYTHING. I loved the Drama. I guess whoever was judging this presentation did not agree.

Miss Venezuela Debora Menicucci: Debora wore the same strapless sequined gown she wore when she represented "Amazonas" back in the "Miss Venezuela 2013" beauty pageant (photo above), many, many months before she even knew that she would get the crown to represent her country at the Miss World (she did not even make the Top Ten of that year's "Miss Venezuela") . I loved the gown then and I still think it was fabulously impacting now. Bellisima!

Miss Northern Ireland Rebekah Shirley: Rebekah wore a one shoulder-esque gown with light sequin detail. She looked modern, chic and very Angelina Jolie-like. This was subdued fabulousless in terms of an elegant gown. One of my favorites!

Miss Moldova Alexandra Caruntu: Love the sharp blue color and the cut of this flared gown. Alexandra looks gorgeous! Nice gown on a very pretty girl.

Miss Ethiopia Yirgalem Hadish: WORK IT!!! "Miss World Ethiopia" is giving a lesson on how to pose in the photo above. I love everything about it. The one shoulder black and white printed gown is sleek, stunning and impacting. It also fits her to perfection.

Miss Bahamas Rosetta Cartwright: Rosetta wore this very pretty gunmetal gray strapless tulle and crystal sequined ball gown. She was very "Prom Princess" in this but not in a cheesy way; she looked elegant and beautiful. The gown was very "Monique Lhuillier"-like.

Miss Indonesia Maria Sastrayu: Very well done. Loved this gown, the draped cascading overskirt, the horsehair hem trim, the interesting lace fabrication...it was Couture, chic and demure. And once again, the side-slicked and straightened modern hairstyle helped the entire look.

Miss Gabon Jessie Lekery: I thought this silver sequined and nude tulle one shoulder gown design worn by "Miss World Gabon" was a nice choice. She looked very red carpet perfect.

The "Ayyy Mija!" Gown Messes of Miss World 2014 "Word Designer Dress" Presentation/Runway Show:

Miss Bosnia and Herzegovina Isidora Borovcanin: Three words--Cha-Cha Queen. The rosette ruffled hi-lo skirt, the "Carmen" figure skating costume design...the tacky black heels; it's just too tacky-licious. She's very pretty and I can understand how she made it into the Top 20 of the "Miss World 2014 Top Model" but...this gown is a tacky hot mess.

Miss Nigeria Iheoma Nnadi: Barbie Madness. The cheap-looking organza, the back tulle detail and the solid-to-sheer gown detail...it's just TOO MUJCHEEY. I LOVE this color but I hate when it's used in such an overtly non-edited tacky way.

Miss Kyrgyzstan Aikol Alikzanova: Blue silver rose applique gown with nude mini dress underneath. And a sequined tulle overskirt. No. This is tacky. But a yes to her hair and earrings. But that's it.

Miss South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth: While I think the fabrication on this dress in interesting, it's WAAAY too short and the styling is completely off. There's no need for that necklace and especially those style of shoes. Those shoes belong to a business outfit not a gown.

Miss Luxembourg Frederique Wolff: Wowsa, that's some fire red on that gown! I like the red applique trim but I don't think red might have been a good choice on the multi-tiered tulle. This looks like a costume/dress that might have been rejected as part of the "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" film.

Miss Latvia Liliana Garkalne: Bland. Bland. Bland. Nude colored top with black messy tulle skirt. This is someone who does not want to be bothered, style-wise; it's sad and depressing.

Miss Switzerland Dijana Cvijetic: Can you say "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding"??? This is all things a mess. Let's just begin with the too-short hi-lo strapless sequined bustier and iridescent organza design. There's so much polyester in this that I am really afraid when anyone lights a match near her. And then, there's those awful black platform peep-toe heels. I could see those in a sexy very fitted black pencil-skirted suit a la Kim Kardashian. But here, it's Tacky-Licious.

Miss Martinique Anais Delwaulle: Three words--Bless Her Heart. This pink tulle and sequin hi-lo style dress is a tacky mess. Has this woman seen what actual actresses and models wear to red carpet events? And those gold stripper pumps??? How do say "Huuuuuney???!!!" en Francais?

Ice Style: (L to R) Alena Leonova of Russia and Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan both in their Free Skate costumes--2014 NHK Trophy ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Osaka Japan

This past weekend was the last of six events in the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating competitions--the 2014-2015 NHK Trophy, held in Osaka Japan. I've discussed the Costumes Highlights of all the previous Grand Prix events of the season, including Hilton HHonors Skate America, Skate Canada, Lexus Cup of China, Rostelecom Cup (Russia) and Trophee Eric Bompard (France) and you can just search Ice Style here on my BLOG on the right under CATEGORIES (scroll below my Twitter, Instragram feeds). Now, it's time to talk about some of the LADIES and MEN costumes of 2014 NHK Trophy, and a couple of COSTUME CHANGES (Hello Boys!!!).
First up, the LADIES...

Congratulations to Gracie! USA's Gracie Gold wins the Gold medal with (L to R), Alena Leonova of Russia ( Silver) and Satoko Miyahara of Japan with the Bronze medal--2014 NHK Trophy ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Osaka Japan

Alena Leonova of Russia, Short Program: Alena's Short program costume seen above to"Smile" performed by Nat King Cole, "Overture - Unveiling the Statue" (City Lights soundtrack) by Carl Davis and "Terry's Theme" (from Limelight soundtrack) by Charlie Chaplin. She was obviously trying to vibe a menswear Charlie Chaplin look with the jacket, "vest", wingtip tuxedo collar and boutonniere. I think it's fun and cheeky.

For her Free Skate to "Asi se baila el Tango" (from "Take the Lead" soundtrack) and
"Otono Porteno" performed by Ensemble Nuevo Tango, she wore this one-shoulder-esque draped red costume/dress. The theme was Argentinian Tango and I think she nailed the look with this costume but in not such an overt and predictable way. It was simple, elegant and quite fashionable.

Christina Gao of USA, Free Skate: Christina skated her Free Skate to "Once Upon a Dream" by Linda Eder. I think this is a pretty costume for Christina. I like the deep plum/violet color, the delicate sequin applique and slightly fluttery sleeve hems and skirt hem.

Elene Gedevanishvili of Georgia, Short Program: For her Short program to "Meditation" (from "Thais") by Jules Massenet, Elene wore this golden stretch satin/lame costume with silver jeweled accents and low-sling studded belt. I thought it was modern, stylish and still had enough Figure Skating costume "pizzazz".

For Elene's Free Skate to "Tough Lover" (from "Burlesque" soundtrack), "Express" (from "Burlesque" soundtrack), and "Show Me How You Burlesque" (from "Burlesque" soundtrack), she wore this black body suit featuring crystals highlighting the torso and hips. If the semi-odd sight of seeing a bodysuit/jumpsuit wasn't enough (it's rare in figure skating international competitions but not so unusual per se), she then finished the look with a diamante headband/crown. Not sure if Elene was vibing Cher or Chrstina Aguilera in this look.

Kanako Murakami of Japan, Free Skate: I discussed this costume to Kanako's Free Skate to  The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber HERE

Riona Kato of Japan, Free Skate: Riona skated her Free Skate to Piano Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninov in this costume above. I actually liked this look. It was bold and I thought the bright blues and intricate torso detail was impacting. Yes, it might have been two seconds from looking like a "Circus du Soleil" costume, but I still loved it.

Li Zijun of China, Short Program: Li Zijun wore this very pretty costume to her Short Program to Waltz of the Flowers (from "Nutcracker") by Peter I. Tchaikovski. I thought she looked like a very "Young Hollywood" fashionable Sugarplum Fairy. I appreciated that it wasn't Ballet costume-y and actually looked like a contemporary party dress. It also looked very well made. the delicate crystals at the neckline and sleeve hem were particularly beautiful.

Gracie Gold of USA: Gold medal winning Gracie Gold wore these costumes above for her Short Program and Free Skate. I liked them both! She really is like the "Grace Kelly" of Figure Skating--from head to toe! I've discussed these costumes when she wore them to the 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America...you can read my comments on her costumes HERE .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MEN:

Takahito Mura of Japan: I've talked about Takahito's Short Program and Free Skate costumes HERE .

Sergei Voronov of Russia, Short Program: Sergei wore this costume for his Short Program to "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens. It was a stretch velvet bodysuit/jumpsuit, all black with feather-like applique detail at the shoulders. I thought it was quite elegant in its subtle hints of death (the black color, the almost-worn and antique-looking applique). I'm glad he didn't go full-on Danse Macabre and wear a skeleton bodysuit!

For his Free Skate to "It's a Men's World" by James Brown, "Come Together" by Marcus Miller, "At Last" by Kenny G and "Big Time Boppin’ (Go Man Go)" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Sergei changed his costume--well, the top--from what he had worn last time at the Rostelecom Cup/Cup of Russia. I thought the ripped shirt, super-tight faux leather pants was A LOT and so I was happy to see a non-ripped shirt as the change. I think it went better with the pants and was less distracting. Now, talk about distracting: WHAT IS GOING ON with that crotch of his (top photo)??!!! Sergei!

Jeremy Abbott of USA, Short Program: Jeremy skated his Short Program to "Lay Me Down" by Sam Smith and I thought there was something different...it was his costume! This deep blue ensemble above--featuring a black placket-front blue very blousey shirt and blue pants--was different from what he wore at Hilton HHonors Skate America for his Short Program:

At Hilton HHonors Skate America 2014--When I talked about this shirt and tie with trousers look, I said I can't help but think he still looks like "he's selling cell phones at my local Verizon store in the mall". he was well-dressed and looked nice but...I am very happy he changed his costume. The blous-y Royal Blue Shirt was a big improvement and really went much better with the theme of the skate. Like his skating, Jeremy likes the subtle details. The interesting seaming and great cuffs add just the right touch to this look.

Ross Miner of USA, Short Program: Ross wore this costume above for his Short Program to"The Way We Were" by Marvin Hamlisch. I absolutely LOVED it!! It was Retro 60's male Figure Skater Good, fit him to perfection and went with the theme and music very well. Also, the plum, lilac and gray colors were gorgeous together.

Free Skate to Romanza by Andrea Bocelli: After seeing his super-cute Short Program Retro look, I was a bit disappointed with this one. I liked the asymmetrical draping/gathering and silver crystal detail but it felt a little "MEH" to me. I don't know what it was, but it left me underwhelmed.

Daisuke Murakami of Japan, Short Program: Daisuke wore this to his Short Program to "El Tango de Roxanne" (from "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack). I thought this was a nice costume interpretation for the song and definitely reminiscent of the film. I am usually not a fan of a very stretchy non-tailored jacket but I understand the need for stretch and movement ease. But I just wished it looked more structured and less like part of a bodysuit.

Free Skate to Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninov: Skaters--whether male or female, for some reason love using this delicate baby blue colors when skating to classical pieces. There must be some sort of "Figure Skating Costume Rule", and here Daisuke follows this rule by wearing these delicate blues for the top of his costume. I like the ombre-like colorations but the top looks a little whickety-wack and like something someone's mother put together in her "sewing room" near the kitchen of her house. This top could be much more elegant with just some side draping/gathering, and asymmetrical flutter hem...and that's it!

Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, Short Program: Remember what I was saying about the baby blue color and classical music? Well, here's "Exhibit #2"--Yuzuru Hanyu and his Short Program costume to "Ballade No. 1 op. 23 in G minor" by Frederic Chopin. I discussed this costume already--click HERE.

Free Skate to Music from The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber: Yuzuru did a COSTUME CHANGE. He wore this ivory, black and blue with gold applique detail costume with a small popped revere collar and ruffles sleeves. It's a bit of a mess, but then again, Yuzuru likes it that way. I have a feeling he might have changed his costume since the last time he skated this Free Skate at the Lexus Cup of China, this happened:

Previous Free Skate Costume at Lexus Cup of China: old costume, bad memories.

Pairs and Ice Dance Fab? (L to R) Germany's Pair team of Mari Vartmann and Aaron Van Cleave and Ice Dance couple of Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada--2014 NHK Trophy ISU Grad Prix of Figure Skating

In my last blog post, I discussed the LADIES and MEN costumes from last weekend's 2014-2015 NHK Trophy ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating held in Osaka Japan. So now, it's time for the PAIRS and ICE DANCE--lots to talk about, including a newly HOT Ice Dance male partner (Read on):

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada, Short Program: Canada's PAIR team of Duhamel and Radford skated their Short Program to "Un peu plus haut" by Ginette Reno. In semi-typical PAIRS costume form--the male is just BLAND and wearing a top and black pants, of course. While the female is doing most of the (costume) work. I liked the delicate lilac color and "different" sequin/applique of her costume but it was still a bit of a "MEH!"; not exciting. I also think she could have at the very least, not used a hair clip from Rite Aid to hold her hair down--talk to your costume designer to make you something...ANYTHING! They got the gold medal for their skate at 2014 NHK, so...I'm thinking the costumes did not really matter.
Now, what does matter, is THIS news about Eric Radford coming out as gay!

Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov of Russia, Short Program: Kavaguti and Smirnov skated their Short Program to "Méditation" from Thaïs by Jules Massenet. I actually liked both of their costumes. Hers was super-fabulous in its intricate sequin and neckline torso detail. I also liked the drape and sheerness and sequins combinations of his top. She looked dangerously pretty and he was SEXY-licious!

Free Skate to Manfred Symphony by Petr I. Tchaikovski: I thought it was a nice contrast to have Yuko wear the delicate pale blue dress and sexy Alexander in black and plunging. However, her costume seemed a bit cheap and dated (I also wasn't a fan of the length of her skirt) and he looked like a Figure Skating Steven Seagal.

Dee Dee Leng and Simon Shnapir of USA, Short Program: Leng and Shnapir skated their Short Program to "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, performed by Edvin Marton. I really liked both of their black costumes. Simon was dark, brooding and directional while Dee Dee was gorgeous and beautifully sequined--in her plunging neckline long sleeved costume. I noticed that they both had plunging neckline nude illusion panels. His, though, I don't think was so necessary.

Free Skate to"Miss Saigon" by Claude-Michel Schoenberg, performed by Sean Alderking: Cute, appropriate and wait, no red color in any of the costumes?? Kudos for stepping a little bit outside the "Miss Saigon" costume box.

Mari Vartmann and Aaron Van Cleave of Germany, Short Program: Vartmann and Van Cleave skated their Short Program to "Waltz from Petersburg's Secrets" (soundtrack) by Andrey Petrov in the costumes above. These bright pink and black costumes were a bit pop-art funky for my taste and for the program. I think they belong in an Ice Dance program better.

Free Program to"Concierto de Aranjuez" by Joaquin Rodrigo (yes, Michelle Kwan's music!): I LOVED these deep wine red and gold applique costumes. He was elegant, sexy and very "Sultan of Arabia" hot. She looked gorgeous in this costume. Very good.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ICE DANCE:

Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexander Gazsi of Germany, Short Dance: German Ice Dance pair Zhiganshina and Gazsi skated their Paso Doble and Flamenco Short Dance to "La Maza" by Silvio Rodriguez and "Ameksa" by Taalbi Brothers. I think her costume was very "Happy Hands at Home" and was NOT Flamenco or Paso Doble-ish but his...a white SUPER TIGHT tank top and high-waisted black pants. I know that it's not much of a costume but...WOWSA! He looks like a former Madonna boy-toy.

Free Dance to"Rothbart's Solo", "Then There's Us", "Don't Go" and "Rothbart's Solo" all from "Swan Lake Reloaded" by Frederik Rydmans: Here, they both wore black--she was in a stretch lace costume with a bar top and panties underneath and he was in a very Zara-fashionable look featuring a thin stretch knit top and drop crotch "Carrot" leg style pants. One word: HOT. This was definitely a modern costume version of "Swan Lake".
Now, may I just take a moment to discuss the newly-found HOTNESS that is...

Alexander Gazsi HOT: Shaved head, light beard, sleek body...Let me remind you of him at the...

SOCHI 2014 Winter Olympics...Yes, kids, that's HIM! Not Hot.

Cathy Reed and Chris Reed of Japan, Short Dance: Brother and sister Ice Dance pair Reed and Reed of Japan skated their Short Dance to "El Cid - Farruca" by Thomas Hickstein and "Elva La Guardia Gato Montes" by Hugo Montenegro wearing these costumes above. While I appreciated the lack of red and black in these "Paso Doble/Flamenco" costumes., they looked a bit tacky Copacabana/Mambo. I did love the Mantilla she was wearing on her hips though.

Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland of United Kingdom, Free Dance: Coomes and Buckland skated their Free Dance to "Exogenesis Part 1" and "Hurricanes and Butterflies" by Muse--I discussed their costumes HERE in my 2014 Rostelecom Cup/Cup of Russia Costume Blog.

Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker of the USA, Free Dance: Hawayek and Baker skated their Free Dance to "Wedding Vows", "The Cheek of Night Come", "Gentle Night Forbidden Love" --all from "Romeo and Juliet" soundtrack by Abel Korzeniowski. I thought the use of ombre shaded lilacs and sweet violet colors were pretty and I also loved the delicate costume references to "Romeo and Juliet"--her softly draped dress and his semi-structured top, in particular.

Emi Hirai and Marien de la Asuncion of Japan, Short Dance: Hirai and de la Asuncion wore these costumes for their Short Dance to "Garcia Lorca Farrucas" by Pepe Romero. With this pairing, I liked his sexy black look much better than hers; I can see the Flamenco/Toreador influences in his costume. But hers, unfortunately, looked a bit of a mess. While I appreciated the "hint" of a bolero jacket in her red lace top section, the combination of that with the rest of the dress looked cheap.

Free Skate to "Peter Gunn theme", "Riot in the cell block No. 9" , "Shake Your Tail Feather"by The Blues Brothers: These costumes were much better than their Short Dance ones. I loved the graphic black and white quality and enjoyed her silver mirrored "bib" detail.

Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada, Free Dance: Ice Dance Gold medalists from Canada Weaver and Poje wore these GREAT costumes for their Free Dance to "Spring", "Summer 1",  "Summer 3", and "Winter" from Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi arranged by Max Richter. I absolutely ADORE her yellow dress and the plant and flower sequin detail. I also liked how Andrew's costume continued the "flora and fauna" theme in his shirt and how the light-wash denim was brought in to make the costumes young, fresh and modern.

Congrats to the Top Three of Ice Dance, 2014 NHK Trophy: (L to R) Ksenia Monko and Kirill Khaliavin of Russia (Silver), Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada (Gold) and USA's Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker (Bronze)--2014 NHK Trophy ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Osaka Japan

The Miss Supranational beauty pageant began in 2009 and with a great show, presentation and stunning contestants, it's certainly vying for a space in the "Gland Slam" of international beauty pageants, the likes of Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth

The Gowns:

White Gown Beauties: All the contestants wore white dresses--some long (gowns) and some short, cocktail length. There were some messes (too short, too cheap-looking) and some nice--if not extraordinary--choices...

Miss India Asha Bhat: Asha's satin white gown was pretty, basic, nothing extraordinary. At least it was the right length and barely showed her shoes.

Miss Poland Kasia Krzeszowska: Kasia wore a strapless dress with satin bustier and organza handkerchief hemmed tiered skirt. This style was a bit of a 90's mess.  And the fact that I can see those tacky gold platform shoes...Ayyy Dios Mio!

Miss USA Allyn Rose: Nothing to really talk about--a white maxi dress that belongs at a Captain's Dinner in a cruise. She looked pretty.

Miss Gabon Maggaly Nguema:Maggaly's gown was one of the best of the finalists--I liked that it was to-the-floor (no shoes showing) and that it fit her nicely and looked both elegant and fashion-forward chic.

Congratulations to Miss India, Asha Bhat for getting the "Miss Supranational 2014" crown!

Winning Beauty: Camille Cerf Miss Nord-Pais-du-Calais--Miss France 2015 Finals

The new Miss France 2015 received 100,000 euros in prizes, use of a Paris apartment for the year of her reign and a monthly salary of 3,000 euros and She will represent France at Miss Universe 2014 in January (of 2015!) and at the Miss World 2015 Finals late next year.  Fun fact: four years ago, she entered the Elite Model Look contest with Elite Model Management and became a finalist, therefore garnering a contract with the agency.

The Top Two: (L to R) Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais Camille Cerf and Miss Tahiti Hinarere Taputu--Miss France 2015 Finals

The new Miss France's "court" included First Runner-Up, Miss Tahiti; Second Runner-Up, Miss Côte d’Azur; Third Runner-Up, Miss Aquitaine; and 4th Runner-Up, Miss Alsace.

Miss Tahiti, and eventual First Runner-Up, Hinarere Taputu--Incidentally, this is the third year in row that Miss Tahiti is the First Runner-Up.

The Production: "Films d'epoque" Old Hollywood Films Theme
As has been the case in past Miss France productions, this year's show--which had a "Films d'epoque" (Old Hollwood Films) theme, was FABULOUS--lots of dance numbers, lots of costume changes and many different segments involving tributes to Musical Comedies, Western, Science Fiction, Romantic Films and Animation. The dance numbers kept the Finals moving with a fast pace and the interest very high for the audience and viewers (an estimated 8.5 million in France!). Miss France beauty pageant is constantly one of the BEST productions, in terms of a TV show.

One Shoulder Gowns, Feathered Fans and 1920's headdresses--The Introduction of Miss France 2015 Finals involved the overall Theme of this year's pageant: "films d'epoque" (Classic Old Hollywood Films)

Musical Comedies Segment:

Fun 50's style dresses in polka-dot/stripes/tulle highlighted this segment--Miss France 2015 Finals

A La Coquete de l'ouest Segment:
"Conquering The West" segment was a fun costumed portion of the pageant highlighting the old Western movies...showing the contestants in sexy "Cowgirl" hi-lo torso-corseted ensembles. Oh and yes, lots of HOT sexy Cowboys in tight jeans and tight Western shirts (and the requisite Cowboy hats of course!). It was very Madonna "Don't Tell Me" Video Homage.

Science Fiction Segment:

Romantic Films Segment:
The 12 Semi-Finalists in lame full gowns during the "Filmes Romatiques" segment--Miss France 2015 Finals

Animation Films Segment:
The Top Five during the "Films d'animation" segment--Miss France 2015 Finals

The Top Five Evening Gowns:
Red Carpet Fab: The Top Five Finals in their evening gowns toward the end of the TV show--Miss France 2015 Finals

The five final gowns all featured some form of sequined applique and were quite well done. Each and every one could be easily worn by a top Hollywood actress on the red carpet. I think this final Evening gown segment capped the entire night's Theme quite well--ending it with fab red carpet gowns.

Top Gowns: My favorites were the two gold gowns worn by the Top Two contestants Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais Camille Cerf (far left) and Miss Tahiti Hinarere Taputu (2nd from right).

Congratulations to the new Miss France, Camille Cerf--Bonne Chance at Miss Universe!

Doña Fabiola: Queen Fabiola of Belgium

Last week, on December 5th, Queen Fabiola of Belgium passed away at the age of 86, after a long illness. She was the wife of King Baudouin of the Belgians. She was the queen consort for 33 years, from her wedding in 1960 until her husband's death in 1993. Since then she was seen as a "Queen Mother" sort of figure for the country of Belgium and beloved by many.

Silver Fox: Queen Fabiola of Belgium

Queen Fabiola and King Baudouin never had children (she was pregnant five times--all ending in miscarriages) so the crown passed on to King Baudouin's younger brother, King Albert II. Fabiola was born Fabiola de Mora y Aragon in Madrid, Spain from Spanish aristocracy. Her father was the 4th Marquess of Casa Riera and 2nd Count of  Mora while her mother was the Marchioness of Casa Torres and Viscountess of Baiguer. And if that isn't enough Haute Spanish aristocracy, Fabiola's godmother was Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain.

Balenciaga Haute Couture Bride: Queen Fabiola and King Bauduoin of the Belgians at their wedding in 1960. The bride wore Balenciaga Haute Couture.

Queen Fabiola was a Fashion Diva. From her 1960 wedding to King Baudouin in which she wore a Haute Couture Cristobal Balenciaga gown to her latter years, she remained always stylish.

Fur and Jewels: Queen Fabiola and King Baudouin in Mexico City, 1965

Printed Queen: Queen Fabiola with then-Princess Maxima and Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands at a 2006 gala dinner

Mink and Color-Coordinated Diva: Queen Fabiola visinting the Belgium Parliament Koenigsfest celebrations in 2008

She loved color, coordinated ensembles, tiaras, mink coats and abanicos (fans). The last one probably being her sly homage to her Spanish roots. She was also known for her fabulously styled hair.
Let's take a STYLE Look Back at Queen Fabiola:

The Wedding Gown:
Satin and Mink Fab: Queen Fabiola in her Cristobal Balenciaga Hate Couture custom wedding gown, 1960

Queen Fabiola of Belgium's wedding gown designed by Cristobal Balenciaga

At her 1960 wedding, she wore a custom Balenciaga Haute Couture wedding gown designed by Spanish couturier Cristobal Balenciaga. The silk satin gown featured a Bateau neckline, raglan sleeves and a low waist and "Watteau"-like cape/train trimmed in mink. Yes, kids, mink! To this day, it is considered one of the most iconic wedding gown designs of all time.

Color Queen:
Pink Couture: Queen Fabiola in a scooped neck pink and silver sequined gown

Blue Diva: Queen Fabiola in a blue and ivory silk organza gown

Teal Queen: Queen Fabiola with then-Princess Sofia of Spain, 1971 celebrations for the 2500th Anniversary of the Persian Empire, Iran

Lilac Suting: Queen Fabiola with then-Princess Mathilde, 2009 International Music Competition of Belgium at the Royal Palace on May 26, 200
Violet-Blue Fab: Queen Fabiola with then-Princess Mathilde and Prince Philippe of Belgium, at a Christmas concert in Belgium 2009

Tiara Queen:
Queen Fabiola received this tiara above as a wedding gift from the Spanish government (lucky her!)

The Wedding Gift tiara

She also made the tiara smaller

And used it as a statement making necklace

Silver Hair Queen:
Normally, when you see women of a "certain age" (especially these days!), their hair is dyed...that's the trend. But leave it to Queen Fabiola to not follow trends. She kept her hair color it's true gray for the last decade+. And she looked FABULOUS!

Fan Queen:
Queen Fabiola loved using an abanico (a fan). I think it was her way of showing her Spanish blood.

RIP Queen Fabiola. And her STYLE.

Miss Australia Courtney Thorpe: Gorgeous, one of the best in the "Miss World Top Model/World Designer" presentation; I loved the gown above.

ASIA------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss India Koyal Rana: elegant, very Bollywood actress look.

Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann: Besides the "sash" factor and yes, the fact that last year's winner was from the Philippines and therefore everyone will be looking at Valerie to see if she can do it again for the beauty pageant-obsessed Asian nation, I think Valerie is beautiful, has model presence and knows how to wear a FABULOUS gown!

Miss Thailand Maeya Nonthawan Thongleng: Miss Thailand is one of my Top Favorites for the top crown; she's stunning, looks like a supermodel and should DEFINITELY be in the top. I would be SHOCKED if she wasn't. Oh, and yes, I also loved the gown she wore for the "Miss World Top Model/World Designer" presentation.

CARIBBEAN--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Dominican Republic Dhio Moreno Romero: Dhio is tall (5' 11"), sleek and very impacting. One of my favorites from the Caribbean.

Miss Haiti Carolyn Desert: Two words: Shaved Head. I love her! Carolyn is sassy, exotic and so chic. Oh and did I mention she's got one of the prettiest faces in the pageant!

Miss Puerto Rico Genesis Davila: Super beautiful, model-like.

NORTH AMERICA------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Mexico Daniela Alvarez Reyes: Daniela is so pretty, great smile, gorgeous eyes and wonderful presence. One of the best from Mexico in a long time!

Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit: I think Elizabeth is one of the Top Three most qualified contestants to potentially win the "Miss World" crown. She's the total package. Beautiful, pageant-savvy, has presence, all of it.

EUROPE--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Finland Krista Haapalainen: Miss Finland already won the "Miss World Sports and Fitness" challenge event which guaranteed her a spot as a Semi-Finalist, so that's why she's here.

Miss France Flora Coquerel: Flora is a stunner. I love her face, her skin color, her Amazonian stature (she's almost 6 feet tall!). She gave up her "Miss France" crown just last week so being a semi-finalist/finalist in tomorrow's Miss World Finals would be a nice way to say "Adieu".

Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar: Sexy (maybe too sexy for the "Miss World" peeps) but sexy indeed!. She's gorgeous and could be a contender for the top crown.

Miss Moldova Alexandra Caruntu: Sweet, very pretty and delicately elegant.

Miss Russia Anastasia Kostenko: Another beauty from Europe who I think will be in the Top 20. At least she's one of MY top 20. I especially love her in the photo above in this ivory sequined gown for the "Miss World Top Model/World Designer" presentation.

Miss Scotland Ellie McKeating: Ellie garnered a Top Two position in the "Talent" challenge and was in the Top 20 of the "Top Model". She definitely has presence and seems like a fun cheeky gal, on top of the fact that yes, she's very pretty. All these things I think, add up to a Top 20 placement for Ellie.

SOUTH AMERICA------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Guyana Rafieya Husain: One word: WOW. So exotic, so stunning. She's also in the Top 5 of the "Multimedia" challenge and Top 20 in the "Beauty With A Purpose" challenge. Rafieya HAS to be in the Top 20 for sure! But seriously, let's go back to that top photo/headshot of hers. I'm speechless.

Miss Venezuela Debora Menicucci: If Debora does not place in the Top 20--at least--that will be an upset. Notwithstanding the "sash" factor and yes, how many "Miss Venezuelas" have won "Miss World" and how the "Miss World" Organization loves a good "Miss Venezuela"...Debora is indeed a really stunning contestant--great body, great face, great hair. Another total package. Let's hope she speaks good English!

AFRICA--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Ethiopia Yirgalem Hadish Adhanomi: That face! I mean, seriously, take a look at her on the runway during the "Miss World Top Model/World Designer" presentation. That photo was enough for me to make her one of my favorites.

Miss South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth: I love Awien's supermodel looks, her gorgeous skin color. South Sudan has definitely been bringing it, in terms of representatives at the "Miss World". Let's hope she DOES NOT wear this gown for the Finals tomorrow:

Bad shoes, too short dress...No.

And Finally, who I think will be the next "Miss World"...
Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss: Every pageant-follower worth his/her sash thinks Rolene is the one to beat. And I agree. Unless she trips or falls, or says something completely idiotic, this lovely woman above, Ladies and Gentlemen, should be the next "Miss World". We'll see.

The Most Beautiful: Miss World 2014, Rolene Strauss of South Africa--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Yesterday, a new Miss Worldwas crowned. And the Winner Is...(yes, you cheated and saw the photo above!), Miss World South Africa Rolene Strauss. The 22-year-old 5' 9 1/2" (1. 77 M) tall beauty beat out 120 other women from all over the world for the coveted international beauty title.

Crowned: Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss gets her crown from her predecessor, Miss World 2013 Megan Young of the Philippines--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

The Miss World 2014 Grand Finals took place in London and the show was televised LIVE to over 100 nations in the globe. Here in the USA, E! Entertainment showed it at 7 AM West Coast time Sunday morning (yes, kids, I watched it in my pajamas!)...

Gorgeous: Rolene Strauss "Miss South Africa" is Miss World 2014--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

The new Miss World is a fourth year medical student and the daughter of a doctor and a former nurse. A cause near and dear to Strauss's heart is the Always Keeping Girls in School project that helps young women in South Africa stay in school and guide them during puberty. She used this as her "Beauty With A Purpose" Miss World campaign.

Teenage Rolene: Rolene Strauss, at age 15, competing in the 2007 Elite Model Look International in Prague, Czech Republic

Rolene was born in Volksrust, South Africa. She won the Elite Model Look South Africa competition, when she was only 15 years old and then place in the top 15 at the 2007 Elite Model Look International finals. She also competed for the Miss South Africa 2011 pageant where she placed in the top 5. She returned to compete for the Miss South Africa 2014 title and, finally, she won!

Top Three: (L to R) First Runner-Up Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar, Miss World 2014 from South Africa Rolene Strauss, and 2nd Runner-Up Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

The Top 5 (besides South Africa) included Miss England, Miss Australia, Miss United States and Miss Hungary. The remaining contestants who made the top 11 Semifinal Round included Miss Thailand, Miss Mexico, Miss Kenya, Miss Brazil, Miss Guyana and Miss India.

The Show-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pageant was a glitzy event featuring live performances from the UK boy band, The Vamps as well as Sky Blu.

The Miss World 2014 Finals were hosted by TV presenter Tim Vincentand Miss World 2013 Megan Young. Both did an outstanding job, especially Megan; she's obviously a PRO for this type of work...no wonder the organization chose her. The only thing I objected to were Tim's choice of shoes. Brown? Really???? He gets a ZERO for footwear while Megan gets a TEN for her Butterfly sleeved gowns! Mabuhay!!

Besides all the beauty and glamour onstage, the show really emphasized the Miss World mantra of "Beauty With A Purpose", showing several video montages from the contestants' causes, as well as all the wonderful work done by its Chairwoman, Julia Morley. It was at times a very emotional show because of this and not necessarily because of "Who's Going To Win" emotions.

AISHWARYA FAB: Oh, and then there was the tribute to the one-and-only Aishwarya Rai Bachachan for the 20th anniversary of her being crowned Miss World. She was ACTUALLY THERE  and went onstage with her mother, husband Abhishek Bachchan and lovely daughter Aaradhya

The Fashion Recap: Time to discuss the FASHIONS!! Let's begin with the fun National Costumes on display during the live telecast and then I'll get to THE Gowns!!

National Costumes Segment--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Costumed Opening: The 121 contestants of the "Miss World 2014" wore their national costumes for the intro of the show. It was a colorful, festive and very international affair. I loved it! Notice the soon-to-be Miss World 2014, Rolene Strauss who represented South Africa in her national costume in the above photo (she's right in the middle).

Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit: She may be from North Carolina but...Elizabeth did a Country-and-Western Texas dance during the live telecast, in her National Costume--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Stretch It Out: Miss World Thailand Maeya Nonthawan Thongleng (center) shows off her moves with Miss World Venezuela Debora Menicucci looking on (left)--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Can Can Beauty: Miss World France Flora Coquerel shows off her red sequined and feathered national costume--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Bollywood Queen: Miss World India Koyal Rana during the Miss World "Dances of the World" segment--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Miss World Mongolia Battsetseg Turbat--Miss World "Dances of the World" segment, Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Miss Scotland Ellie McKeating during the Miss World "Dances of the World" segment--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

The Gowns-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gown Pretty: Contestants from Russia, Sao Tome and Principe, Austria, Venezuela and Tanzania in their evening gowns--standouts here are Miss World Russia Anastasia Kostenko's emerald green off-the-shoulder ball gown (stunning!) and Miss World Venezuela Debora Menicucci's feathered and sequined concoction

All 121 contestants were introduced--during Sunday's telecast of the Miss World 2014 Finals--all wearing evening gowns of their choice. The pageant has done that in the past several years (as opposed to introducing them in cocktail dresses a laMiss Universe, or in their national costumes) and I think it makes for a very glamorous display. The only comment I have is that they introduce them so quickly that the glimpses of the gowns go by so quickly, it makes it difficult to really appreciate them. Now, here on my blog, I like to comment on the gowns, of course, but obviously I cannot discuss all 121 otherwise the blog would be far too long for anyone's attention span so...I have just singled out some of the gowns to discuss...

Canary Yellow Goddess: Miss Seychelles Camilla Estico's canary yellow gown with sequined neck applique stood out for its color (of course) and interesting design.

The Ladies in Red: Miss Turkey made quite a statement in this red sequined and tulle gown with large horsehair trim at the hem. I also LOVED Miss Indonesia's red ball gown (seen in the background on the top left).

Color and Sequins were key trends of the Miss World 2014 evening gown parade--Miss World 2014 Finals, London UK

Let's discuss some of my Faves:

Winning Gown: South Africa's Rolene Strauss in the powder pink gown she wore at the Miss World 2014 Finals. the gown was designed by Casper Designer Wear and Casper Bosman, a designer based in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The style featured an off-the-shoulder style with a horizontally gathered torso/body and multi-tiered ruffles ending in a flared "mermaid lite" silhouette. I thought this was a beautiful gown, very sweet. It worked perfectly with Rolene's figure. I also loved the styling of her side-swept hair and small drop earrings.

Miss World Philippines Valerie Weigmann: Besides Miss World South Africa's gown, I also loved the gown worn by Valerie Weigmann of the Philippines. She wore an ivory tulle and organza-based ball gown with a high bateau neckline featuring many canary yellow paillettes in a degrade pattern. The stunning gown was deigned by Michael Cinco, Filipino designer based in Dubai. This gown stood out onstage among most of the other 120 dresses. I though it was very Academy Awards red carpet gorgeous. I loved it when she wore it for the Miss World "Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress" presentation and I loved it in the Miss World 2014 Finals.

Miss World South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth: When Awien was "presented" onstage and she came on my TV screen in this Couture-worthy creation--with the brightly printed cape/coat over a multi-tiered ivory ball gown...WOW! I think I stopped breathing; she looked regal, stunning and all against that  incredible chocolate colored skin of hers...this truly was A GOWN MOMENT at the Miss World. It took me back to one of those fantastic early Alexander McQueen and/or John Galliano for Dior Haute Couture collections. DIVA!

Miss World Venezuela Debora Menicucci: Although Debora failed to place at Sunday's Miss World 2014 Finals, I still loved her evening gown. She wore a turquoise and pale blue/silver gown from Venezuelan designer Gionni Straccia. the gown featured intricate sequin detail in the torso/body, ending in a feathered bottom half using degrade effect of plumage.

Miss World Thailand Maeya Nonthawan Thongleng: Maeya won the "People's Choice" winner and therefore made it into the Semifinals round in the Top 11. Maeya looked gorgeous and Supermodel sexy in this one shoulder copper and gold colored fitted gown with sequined torso and very high side slit. She could have EASILY been one of the Victoria's Secret models walking the pre-show PINK carpet! I normally would not like such high platforms since they remind me of tacky strippers but somehow Maeya makes me give her a (shoe) pass here!

Beauty With a Purpose Final Five: I loved all the gown worn by the 5 finalists of  "Beauty With a Purpose"--from left to right: India, Kenya, Brazil, Indonesia and Guyana. My favorite one here is the red ball gown worn by Miss World Indonesia Maria Asteria Sastrayu Rahajeng, followed by Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma's gold and silver feathered and sequined gown and Miss World India Koyal Rana's shimmering lace metallic gown rounding out the top 3 in the above tableaux.

Miss World Dominican Republic Dhio Moreno Romero: Dhio made it into the Top 25 and for good reason--she was tall, stunning and had a very commanding presence. For her evening gown choice, she wore a gold and nude halter gown with gold applique-over-nude-tulle detail. I thought this was a nice gown but not so "Fashion Forward"; it was "Pageant Betty" but still looked quite nice on Dhio. Personally, I would have rather seen her in a modern Grecian Goddess silk jersey draped gold gown.

Miss World France Flora Coquerel: Flora was FIRST in terms of the points she got for the Interview portion during the pre-final "challenges"; however, she failed to make the Top 25 Quarterfinal list unfortunately. I think she looked quite pretty in this Eric Tibusch-designed gown. The dress featured a princess-seamed caviar-beaded ivory colored body that ended with godets in pale pink silk chiffon. As you can also see form the sketch, it had asymmetrical shoulder/arm detail. I thought it was a nice gown but a bit too short on Flora.

Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit: Elizabeth had a very good day on Sunday, in that she almost won the "Miss World 2014" title. Almost. She came in third. She really owned the stage with her strong presence, beautiul eyes and dark hair. She was very "USA Pageant Girl" but had that "I Care" quality that the Miss World Organization is always looking for. For the finals, she wore a red mermaid style gown from Mac Duggal, a fashion company known for making great Prom-and-Pageant dresses. The designer--Mac Duggal--was born in India but he and his company are based in Illinois, USA, right outside of Chicago. In terms of this gown on Elizabeth, I thought this was the PERFECT choice for her.

The Uh Oh!/Ayyy Mijas!:
Miss Netherlands Tatjana Maul: Two words--TOO MUCHEEY! Tatjana wore a pale pink mermaid shaped gown that was--let's be honest--TOO mermaid! And then there's the rather inexpensive looking beading and  if the sequined and multi-tulled gown wasn't enough, she felt it necessary to add a big ol' necklace and too-big earrings. I'll quote my friend, stylist Jen Rade: "Everything Can't Be Something!".

Miss World Vietnam Loan Nguyen Thi: Loan also wore a mermaid style gown--this one in red. While the shape was OK, it's the scrunched tulle--in red!--that made it look like a big ol' loofah!

Miss World Japan Hikaru Kawai and Miss World Korea Hwa-Young Song: No and No. Between Miss World Japan's feathered concoction and Miss World Korea's multi-colored applique dress (and that makeup and HAIR!), I thought I was witnessing a Drag Show in West Hollywood.

Miss World Serbia Milica Vuklis: Alright girl, we can see you are one hot, sexy contestant; I get it. Milica has a gorgeous face but why, oh why does she ruin it all with this TACKY-LICIOUS hi-lo golden colored gown. It's not the hi-lo I dislike, it's the focus on her smooshed boobs, the feathered trim at the hem (really??!!), the fact that I can see the tacky featherd trim from the inside...and yes, then there are those black and nude heels. She is one hot mess.

Miss England Carina Tyrrell: Carina placed very high at the "Miss World 2014" Finals. She was very pretty and I'm sure a very sweet woman. However, her gown and especially the overall styling was ATROCIOUS! Let's begin with the "I'm a Disney Princess" Prom Dress style of this white gown. And then, what is up with the long gloves???!!! It's not 1968 darling. She was very Retro and trust me, not in a good way.

Congratulations to Rolene Strauss for winning the Miss Word 2014 title!! I knew she would!

ICE STYLE.....Figure Skating Costumes Recap, 2014 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals: LADIES and MEN!

$

Ladies and Gentlemen: Some of my favorite costumes from the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix Finals from the Ladies (Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia and Ashley Wagner of the USA) and Men (Javier Fernandez of Spain and Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan)

Last weekend, the city of Barcelona in Spain hosted the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals competition. This was the first time this top international competition had taken place in the Iberian Peninsula.

This was the Finals of all the Grand Prix that happened earlier in the year, including Hilton HHonors Skate America, Skate Canada, Lexus Cup of China, Rostelecom Cup/Cup of Russia, NHK Trophy (Japan) and Trophee Eric Bompard in France. I talked about most of the figure skating costumes throughout this Grand Prix season here on my little ol' blog. So now it's time to discuss my favorite costumes from the Grand Prix Finals.

Let's begin with the LADIES:
The Top Three: (L to R) Silver medalist Elena Radionova, gold medalist Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and bronze medalists, Ashley Wagner of the USA--2014 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia: Elizaveta wore my FAVORITE costumes for the Free Skate in this deep violet design above which she wore to skate to "Batwannis Beek" by The REG Project and "Sandstorm" by La Bionda. I loved the color, the asymmetrical neckline, the chiffon dolman sleeves and gold jeweled details. FAB-ulous! She wore a similar costume--but in black with silver crystals...
For her Short Program to "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel. I thought this was great as well. While many may think it was rather un-creative or semi-repetitive for her (and her costume designer) to do very similar costumes for both, I think it was both wise and perfect for the music.

Ashley Wagner of the USA: Ashley's costumes for both her Short Program (above) and Free Skate (top photo) were some of my top faves for this 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix Finals. For her Short (black costume), she skated to "Spartacus" by Aram Khatchaturian and I liked the gathered top section with open sides and gold embellished waist; it was very "Near East" fab! For her Free Skate to Music from "Moulin Rouge", she DAZZLED in that red costume with "diamond" necklace detail.

Anna Pogorilaya of Russia: Anna wore two very creative costumes for both her Short (top photo) and Free (above photo from the 2014 Rostelecom Cup/Cup of Russia) Programs to "Adagio" by Il Divo and "The Firebird Ballet Suite" by Igor Stravinski, respectively. I thought they were very "Fashion Diva" in terms of design and execution and while I do LOVE bright, bold colors, I might have to choose the light blue one (Short program) as my favorite of the two.

Ladies Costume Changes:
Elena Radionova of Russia: Silver medalists Elena Radionova wore a different costume for her Free Skate at the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals than what she had worn before. For her Free Skate, she skated to "Piano Concerto No. 3" and "Trio Elegiaque No. 2" by Sergei Rachmaninov. If I have to chose the better of the two, it would be the top (newer) one; I liked the ombre shading and yellow with sequined top section of the 2014-2015 Grand Prix Finals costume. I think the other costume was a bit "heavy-handed" in terms of the ruching/gathering. But I did love the gold neck/shoulder section embellishments.

Yulia/Julia Lipnitskaya of Russia: Yulia was another Costume Changer at last weekend's 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals in Barcelona Spain. She wore a new costume for her Free Skate to "Romeo and Juliet" by Nino Rota, Mother's Journey (from "Good Bye Lenin" soundtrack) by Yann Tiersen and "Forbidden Love" (from "Romeo and Juliet" soundtrack) by Abel Korzeniowski. I have to be honest here: both are BAD. I get that she's young but seriously, she's a Gold-medal Olympian. These costumes seem so "Happy Hands at Home" and cheap, tacky. The stretch lace screams Downtown L.A. fabric bin. Sorry.

MEN:
The Top Three Boys: (L to R) Silver medalist Javier Fernandez of Spain, gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, and bronze medalist Sergei Voronov of Russia--2014-1015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

Javier Fernandez of Spain: Javier's Free Skate costume to Ouverture, Acto Laro al Factotum, andTemporale from "Il Barbiere di Seviglia" by Giacchino Rossini. I loved this look for Javi. The striped vest fit him perfectly and I especially LOVED the mitering (matching) of the stripes in the back.

Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan: I haven't been a fan of Yuzuru's costumes in past season's (especially at the 2014 Sochi Olympics!)  but I am beginning to warm up to these Short (top photo) and Free Skate (bottom one) designs for the 2014-2015 season. If I have to choose a better one, it would be the the Free Skate costume which he wears to "Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber.  I like the jagged color distribution on his top and gold applique accents. Not sure how necessary the black chiffon sleeve hem ruffles were but, I have a feeling with Yuzuru...More is More.

Takahito Mura of Japan: Takahito skated his Short Program to"Carmen" by Georges Bizet and his Free Skate (bottom photo) to "Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Both were a bit "MEH" on the costume scale for me; the "Carmen" one seemed a bit too "Tron"-ish and the "Phantom" one was waaaay too formulaic. I give both a 5.0 out of 10 in terms of a Costume Score.

Maxim Kovtun of Russia: Maxim was such a bore in terms of costumes this season. The top one--a black top and pants...with the DREADED "Ross Dress-For-Less" black belt--is what he wore  for his Short program to "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel. Yes, kids, that's what he wore to BOLERO!!! Next...then for his Free Skate to "Exogenesis Symphony" by Muse (bottom photo, above) he wore this blue and black skeleton-like top with black pants. While it would seem OK, I had MAJOR problems once his body kept lifting up and showing the same "Ross Dress For Less" belt he wore for his Short Program. This costume needed to be a complete bodysuit to make any sense.

Ice Dance Costume King and Queen: Canadian Ice Dance couple Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje in their Short and Free Dance costumes--2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

A couple of weeks back the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals  took place in Barcelona Spain. As part of my love of figure skating and figure skating costumes, naturally I discussed the LADIES and MEN costumes last week here on my blog and because of the Holiday break, I didn't get a chance to talk about my favorites of the ICE DANCE and PAIRS so...better late than never and so therefore, here is my FASHION RECAP of the Ice Dance and Pairs costumes form the 2014 Grand Prix Finals in Barcelona.

Let's begin with the ICE DANCE:
Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada Short Dance: Weaver and Poje skated their 2014-2015 Season Flamenco Short Dance to "La Virgen de la Macarena" in these fabulous costumes above. I LOVED them! They were so intricate, so precise, so outstanding...

I can't even pick a favorite between these two. Andrew's Toreador was sublime, elegant, sexy and filled with all the fabulous gold applique and sequined embroidery that would make any top Matador BLUSH! And Kaitlyn's red dress with gold torso applique was beautiful, very Lacroix, and perfect for the dance music.

Free Dance to "Spring", "Summer 1", "Summer 3", and "Winter" from "Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi arranged by Max Richter--I discussed HERE how these were two of my favorite figure skating ICE DANCE costumes this season! Modern, colorful, new and quite fashionable.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates of USA, Short Dance: US Ice Dance pair Chock and Bates skated their Short Dance to "Don Quixote" by Leon Minkus and I also loved these costumes. They weren't as impacting as the Canadians but they told a sexier story with these costumes. Madison's plunging neckline sensual flamenco dress was EVERYTHING and Evan's all black stretch velvet with sequined detail Toreador was after-midnight Toreador. #Fantastic

Free Dance to "An American in Paris", these costumes continued the sensual theme Chock and Bates began with their fiery Flamenco Short Dance. As a fashion designer, I admired the asymmetrical neckline and color block dress on Madison. And Evan's all black look featuring a boat-neck top with side sequined detail with black pants was the right costume counterpart.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France, Free Dance: One of my other favorite Ice Dance teams--in terms of their Free Dance costumes--were Papadakis and Cizeron of France. they wore these ethereal and modern-ballet-like costumes for their Free Dance to "Adagio from Concerto No. 23" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I discussed these costumes HERE so you can read how much I liked them.

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada, Free Dance: These costumes above is what this Canadian Ice Dance pair wore for their Free Dance to "A Street Car Named Desire Overture" from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "Si tu voi ma mere" and "Dans les rues d'Antibes" by Sidney Bechet. I liked these costumes and thought her flowy charmeuse dress was very 1930's Period and looked like something from a 30's Vogue Magazine. The "Costume Stars", however, were what they wore for their Short Dance which I talked about HERE.

Maia and Alex Shibutani of the USA, Short Program: Brother and sister Ice Dance team, the Shibutani's wore these costumes above for their Flamenco and Paso Doble Short Dance to "Asturias Variations" and  "The Last Corrida". They were OK but not outstanding, especially after seeing what the Canadians Weaver and Poje and Gilles and Poirier wore for their Spanish-themed Short Dances...well, these looked almost store-bought!

PAIRS-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canada's Gold medal-winning pairs, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford--2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada, Free Skate: Duhamel and Radford skated their gold medal-winning Free Skate to "Neutron Star Collision", "I Belong to You" (from "Samson and Delilah") and "Uprising" by Muse in these costumes. I thought they were pretty fabulous, especially hers. I thought the one-shoulder design really highlighted Meagan's INCREDIBLE physique--and those amazingly toned arms and shoulders especially. The delicate beading and intricate midriff detail was also nice. I would have liked more of that sequin work on Eric's costume because I felt it needed a little "something". But, overall, very nice.

Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov of Russia: I thought Stolbova and Klimov of Russia were definite Costume Highlights at this year's 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals in Barcelona. I discussed these costumes HERE. And yes, I thought they were outstanding and great for their programs.

Finally...
Xiaoyu Yu and Yang Jin of China, Free Program: This Chinese pairs skated their Free Program to "Humility and Love" (from "Creation" soundtrack) and I really liked these costumes, and therefore I put them here in my "Best of" section of this blog.  I loved the fluid drape of his top and I also liked her light blue costume. The bead work on hers was exquisite and the applique formed quite a nice neckline detail.

Pageant Gown Fab 2014: The Best of 2014--Check out who made my End-of -the-Year Beauty Pageant Gown List

Time for my End-of-the-Year "Sashes and Tiaras" Fashion Roundup!! Yes, kids, it's that time of the year when we discuss "The Best of 2014", and naturally, I want to talk about the Best Beauty Pageant Gowns of 2014. I've narrowed it down to some of my favorite gowns from the more "top" international pageants such as Miss World, Miss International, as well as Miss Venezuela, Miss USA, Miss Lebanon and Miss World Philippines, among others. I wish I could include "Miss Universe" in her but since the pageant won't happen until next year on January 25th, then it really doesn't count as part of the "Best of 2014".

So...let's have a look-back at the Beauty Pageant Gown Highlights of 2014. Oh, and of course, I'll have an "Ayyy Mija!"/Uh Oh of 2014 Pageant Gown Recap in a separate blog!

Miss World 2014----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss South Africa--and eventual Miss World 2014--Rolene Strauss: Loved this powder pink off-the-shoulder gown in a "Lite Mermaid" shape designed by Casper Bosman of Casper Designer Wear of South Africa. The torso draping/gathering was just right and the softly flowing multi-tiered bottom half added drama and fluidity. And that sweetheart neckline framed Rolene's PERFECT face and hair. All that was missing was, yes, a Miss World crown. And she got it.

I also loved the light blue sequined gown she wore at the Miss World Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress presentation (above photo). The gown fit perfectly, perfect length and had a wonderful column-to-flared silhouette.

Miss World Philippines Valerie Weigmann: I absolutely loved Valerie's choice for evening gown in the Miss World 2014 Finals. She also wore this Michael Cinco-designed gown for the Miss World Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress presentation. The lemon yellow paillette over ivory tulle and organza ball gown was perfect and so on-trend. It was definitely one of favorites of 2014.

Miss South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth: One of my top faves from this year's Miss World was the gown and printed cape worn by Miss South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth. The ensemble was designed by Jennifer Akese Burney of Akese StyleLines and it was MARVELOUS! Awien definitely made a GOWN statement in this! One of my favorites!

Miss Lebanon Saly Greige: Saly wore a gorgeous ocean blue silk gazar with sequin detail ball gown for the Miss World 2014 Finals. It was sublime; the beading, the shape, the fit...Beautiful!

Miss World Thailand Nonthawang Thongleng: Nonthawang stood out at this year's edition of the "Miss World" with her sexy gold crepe and sequined one shoulder gown and Victoria's Secret-like supermodel styling and overall presentation. Among all the "I'm a Sweet Girl" Gown Parade that happened at the "Miss World 2014", Miss World Thailand brought enough Supermodel Stomp to make the other women look like dated Pageant Betty's.

Nonthawang also looked EXCEPTIONAL during the Miss World Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress presentation, where she wore the canary yellow silk draped gown with an ivory-colored "under-dress" in the above photo. Chic, Cannes Red Carpet fab...one of the best!

Miss World Venezuela Debora Menicucci and Miss World Russia Anastasia Kostenko: I loved BOTH of the gowns worn by Miss World Venezuela Debora Menicucci (a Gionni Straccia design) and Miss World Russia Anastasia Kostenko. Debora's gown was exquisitely made and had perfect stage-wattage with its silver/blue sequined over nude illusion torso ending in a full ombre feathered explosion. This gown could have easily looked like a Gay Pride Float but under Straccia's wonderful design hands, it looked fabulously chic. And Anastasia's emerald green ball gown was a definite standout; it was elegant, regal and looked very well made and could have easily been from an Elie Saab or Zuhair Murad Couture collection.

Miss World Australia Courtney Thorpe: Courtney wore one of my favorite gowns of 2014 in terms of beauty pageants during the Miss World Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress presentation. This teal chiffon gown featured a heavily sequined bodice and shoulder "cape" pieces that fell to the ground. The style was dramatic, runway fab and was styled well with her hair up and small earrings.

Miss International 2014--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss International Puerto Rico--and eventual Winner of Miss International 2014 Valerie Hernandez: Valerie won the pageant wearing this ivory and gold gown with sequined "fire" detail and a sheer-and-sequined neckline. I thought this belonged in the Best of 2014 Pageant Gowns blog because it was a very nice gown; very impacting, and she completed the look well with the simple drop earrings and perfect updo hairstyle.

Miss International Thailand Punika Kulsoontornrut: The beautiful Punika got the 2nd Runner-up title at this years Miss International in Japan while wearing this white satin and silver sequined gown. The silver crystal overlay was exquisite and I especially loved the shoulder details. While I wished it wasn't SOOOO plunging and the "sisters" weren't so much on display...I still think she looked elegant and perfectly pretty in this. The Miss Thailand Organization seems to really have its Gown situation down to a perfect "Style Science". Kudos to them.

Miss USA 2014-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss LouisianaUSA Brittany GuidryBrittany wore what I thought was THE BEST gown of the Miss USA 2014 Finals. I know that some people on the web weren't such fans but I don't care: I LOVED IT! The color was stunning; the fit was perfect; the jeweled drop-shoulder bodice and empire-waisted multi-layered georgette skirt was sublime. Brittany looked regal and almost on a whole other level than the rest of the contestants. And maybe too regal and too unapproachable and therefore, she ended up with the Third Runner-Up position in the end. But for her Gown, she gets FIRST...

Miss IowaUSA Carlyn Bradarich: Carlyn was another absolute stunner in terms of her beauty as well as her gown. The black velvet column gown is regal, emphasizes her statuesque frame and the neckline sequin detail is beautiful. She looked CLASSY and sexy all at the same time in this gown. It's a perfect example that there's no need to show Tacky-licious Cleavage and have a SLIT to your nether regions to get attention.

Miss South CarolinaUSA Christina Zapolski: Six foot tall stunner Christina Zapolski wore a Mermaid-style strapless ivory colored gown featuring a sequined torso and multi-layered organza bottom half. This gown fit Christina perfectly and was one of my favorites of the Miss USA 2014--and of 2014. She looks like the "Dream Child" of models Christie Brinkley and Elle Macpherson.

Señorita Colombia 2014-2015/Miss Colombia Universe 2014---------------------------------------------
Miss Sucre--and eventual Miss Colombia Universe 2014-2015 Ariadna Gutierrez: Ariadna wore a gold and creme sequined gown with nude illusion, plunging neckline and tulle back godets. I liked this gown so much I placed it here on my "Best of 2014" list. Ariadna looked VERY "Sofia Vergara at an awards show red carpet". She got first (a 9.9 !) in Evening Gown scores from the judges and I think that was well deserved.

Miss World Philippines 2014-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contestant #19--and eventual Winner of Miss World Philippines 2014--Valerie Weigmann: This was my FAVORITE evening gown of the Miss World Philippines 2014 beauty pageant. When Valerie stepped onstage with this strapless apple green "Empire"-style gown with jeweled applique bust section, it was like "Done & Done!"; she looked majestic, runway chic, modern, and like a winner. Valerie looked like a top Hollywood actress on a red carpet of a big Hollywood event--while lots of the other contestants just gave you "Pageant Betty". It was almost unfair and pretty obvious who got the best gown and who probably was the favorite (at least in the pageant organizers and who-gets-what-gown decision-making). This HAD to be in my "Best of 2014" Pageant Gown list.

Miss Lebanon 2014-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This year's edition of the Miss Lebanon 2014 pageant featured an entire Evening Gown Competition featuring evening gowns from Lebanese Couturier--and Red Carpet Fave--Zuhair Murad. ALL the gowns were from his most recent Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014-2015 collection. Each and every one of the gowns were handmade and would cost in the $100,000-$400,000 if you were rich enough to order them (or famous enough to wear them for free for a top awards show!). I realize that these gowns may not go under the typical "Beauty Pageant Gown" dept. since these are truly High Fashion Runway styles, but since they were worn in a beauty pageant, that was close enough to make it onto my list. While it was difficult to chose my favorites, here were some:

3rd Runner-Up Aya Hodroj: Stunning red strapless side draped ball gown

"Miss Lebanon 2014" contestant Elizabeth Matar: One shoulder side draped silk gazar turquoise ball gown

First Runner-Up Elsa Hajjar: Stunning black sequined gown with ivory silk gazar over-skirt with black "zebra"-like sequined detail

2nd Runner Up Rouba Monzer: Strapless silver silk organza and tulle ball gown with "window-pane"-like crystal detail

"Miss Lebanon 2014" contestant Sherine Nasr: One shoulder silver sequined column gown with side front high slit.

Miss Venezuela 2014-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Anzoategui Edymar Martinez: Edymar got the second-place title of "Miss Venezuela International" at this year's edition of the famed Miss Venezuela beauty pageant. She was almost-Miss Venezuela, and in fact, she was THE favorite to win the top crown (well, she almost got it!). Edimar's gown was a blush colored sequined gown from Venezuelan designer Hugo Espina featuring over 17,000 hand-sewn crystals. Whoever had to count those: bless your heart! The gown was gorgeous, impacting and very Red Carpet on-trend (look at that back!). If she never wears this again, she should give it to the actual Miss Venezuela to wear for the Miss Universe pageant! Definitely one of my Best of 2014!

Miss Falcon Jennifer Saa: 6' 1" tall model Jennifer was one of my favorites of the Miss Venezuela 2014 pageant finals; she was Model Perfection, had the air of "I'm Above You!" (she's six foot one!) and works the runway like no other!  She was picked as one of the Top Ten but didn't proceed from there. Let's just say that my advice is that she needs to take a one-way flight to MilanItaly and never look back! But moving on--her mint green-and-silver sequined gown with white cape was designed by Alejandro Fajardo. The gown itself was AMAZING and I don't think it needed the sequined cape. If anything, the cape would have been fine but just white silk chiffon--plain and no sequins.

Miss Apure Skarliz Coa: Skarliz was one of my favorite contestants (so gorgeous!) at this year's "Miss Venezuela 2014" beauty pageant, and this gown was actually also one of my faves. It was designed by Valentina Cedeño. The dress featured a high neck column design with a sheer crystal-encrusted center front and neck section. It was modern and sexy.

Miss Amazonas Maira Alexandra Rodriguez: Maira got the third place title as "Miss Earth Venezuela" and she actually got to wear this for the "Miss Earth 2014" finals this year. Her one shoulder ivory silk crepe and tulle gown was from designer Julio Mora. I liked the gown and especially the crystals strategically strewn throughout the gown's neckline, sleeve, and side. The only thing that bothered me were those over-the-top crystal-encrusted platform heels: SO not necessary. Other than that: it was one of the best Pageant Gowns of 2014.

Miss Zulia Erika Pinto: The stunning Erika Pinto wore this Gionni Straccia-designed gown for the "Miss Venezuela 2014" finals. This ivory gown with sequin paillette embellishment was modern and impacting. The nude illusion PERFECTLY matched her skin color. Note to all those Figure Skating Costume Designers who cannot get it right: it can be done!

Miss Cojedes Isabella Arriaga: Isabella's gown was designed by Alejandro Fajardo. I thought it was a very dramatic, red carpet-worthy gown; something I can see Sofia Vergara wearing at a big awards event. The dress had a semi-mermaid silhouette and was white and gold panels with crystals throughout. Poor Isabella had A LOT of trouble walking in this gown as for some reason, the sides were buckling under and getting caught with her shoes and impeding her walk. She kept trying to kick the darn train but to no avail. But I didn't mind that--the gown was stunning enough to make the "Best of 2014" cut.

The Ayyyy Mija's! of 2014--Time to fire your stylist, ladies--The "Uh Oh!" Beauty Pageant Gowns of 2014

Since it's the New Year, it's time for those "Best of 2014" lists...and in one of my previous posts HERE, I put together my FAVORITE "Best Beauty Pageant Gowns" of 2014, featuring some of what I thought were the Best designs worn by international beauty contestants throughout the past year. Now, naturally, any time there's a "Best", what follows is the "Uh Oh" list. So, as a counterpoint I present you my "Uh OH/Ayyy Mija! Beauty Pageant Gowns" of 2014...

Miss World Philippines 2014-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contestant #4 Priscilla Kimberley dela Cruz: One word: GURL! Or as I like to say "Ayyy Mija!!". During the pageant, when she lifted up the dress and almost exposed her "Uh Oh" regions, I was afraid for her--and her family-- seeing something they might not want to see! This is the definition of Hoochie. And then there was the tacky-licious styling: the too-big choker, heels. Oy Vey.

#20 Nelda Ibe: While she made quite an impression during the Evening Gown portion of the "Miss World Philippines 2014" finals (especially when she "flipped" her skirt section) and I liked the apricot color of the gown...it was the odd gathering/ruching that was buckling in the top section that bothered me; it was a bit "Happy Hands At Home" home sewing looking. And the gown was too short.

#21 Jean Marie Feliciano: I love the canary yellow color and gold jeweled sequin detail but just not in this gown. There's something "Figure Skating Costume" about the look and I am especially not a fan of the iridescent nude inset right below her you-know-what. The fabric and trim were right, just the wrong design. In the hands of a more talented designer, this would have been gorgeous and not tacky.

Miss USA 2014------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss New Mexico USA Kamryn Blackwood: Oh Kamryn, she's a lovely girl for sure. On the plus side, her hair looked un-Pageant Betty and up-to-date, and she didn't pile on the jewelry. However (a big however!), she wore THIS gown. This plum-colored gown is HOOCHIE and better for the AVN Awards (sorry) than for competing for Miss USA; it was too revealing, too cut-out and about one inch away from a "wardrobe malfunction" in the bust area.

Miss North Dakota USA Audra Mari: Audra almost got the Miss USA 2014 crown this past year. She wore an emerald satin gown with "one-shoulder" draped bodice detail sewn over nude illusion. The dress also had a sequined waistband. I was a bit perplexed by this gown and not a fan to be honest. It seemed a little sloppy and lacked the sophistication and amazing execution one would see from a high level pageant gown. I also didn't understand why the designers--or whoever made this gown--would put a big ol' WHITE zipper on the side, for all to see.

Miss Venezuela 2014-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Barinas Stefany Merlin: When she first stepped onstage during the Miss Venezuela 2014 pageant, I loudly said "Alright GURL!! get it!". But then I realized that's also what I say when I see a FABULOUS Drag Queen! This gown was A LOT--the Halloween orange color, the Versace-like gold banding, the sequined column, the unnecessary back chiffon attached overskirt and then, her "sisters" are on FULL DISPLAY as if to say "Gracias Plastic Surgeon for a great job!". File under "Waaaay Too Mucheeey!".

Miss Monagas Fabiola Briceno: When "Miss Monagas" first walked out in her red mermaid shaped gown in the "Miss Venezuela 2014" Evevning Gown competition I thought two things: Ole!, and, she looks like Spanish Flamenco Diva Isabel Pantoja. The red lace applique gown was A LOT and too overwhelming. It's obvious that "More Is More" in the "Miss Venezuela" gown mantra but I just think it dated the beautiful Fabiola. On a good note: she looked like a porcelain Andalusian Doll.

Miss Yaracuy Edmary Pineda: When Edmary first stepped onto the stage, the camera only showed the top, and I was thinking "Oh, this could be interesting". But then, it panned to the entire gown and it quickly went into "Cleopatra Blue Bird"/National Costume territory. The feathered and muti-tiered tulle bottom is so not necessary; she belongs in a Gay Pride Float and not the Miss Venezuela (oh, wait, maybe they're the SAME THING!!).

Señorita Colombia 2014-2015/Miss Colombia Universe 2014-2015--------------------------------------
Miss Cundinamarca Maribel Mendoza LondonoSilver stretch lame are not the three words one would associate with a winning evening gown. Not sure why she would wear this Disco 1982 looking gown, but she did, unfortunately. Ayyy Mija!, indeed.

Miss Arauca Lynda Shirley Guedes Castro: This black and silver sequined gown is so off-the-rack looking. The flower trim at the waist was not necessary and the entire style lacked sophistication and elegant up to date glamour; this gown was nice in 1994 but in 2014, it needs to be a little more directional.

Miss Earth 2014-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Earth Scotland Romy McCahill: What is happening here with Romy's gown?? The dress was all things A MESS; the too-high sweetheart neckline, the illusion Figure Skating Costume torso detail, and then...the ripply seams, the badly fitted sides and worst of all, the WRINKLED poly satin! Did her backstage dressers take a break from steaming? Pobrecita, as we say in Spanish. She's such a pretty girl but wow, this was a major Gown No-No.

Miss Earth Zambia Cartier Zagorski: Someone must have been watching the most recent Moschino Spring 2015 "Barbie Collection" by Jeremy Scott one too many times on YouTube... Bubblegum pink, one shoulder, mermaid-shape with plastic and silver lame tiered skirts. Oh and then there's a back poly chiffon "cape" PLUS Indian-style forehead beading. I think it's quite FAB for a Barbie 50th Anniversary gala but for the evening gown competition of an international beauty pageant...a bit tacky-licious.

Miss World 2014----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss England Carina Tyrrell: Carina placed very high at the "Miss World 2014" Finals. She was very pretty and I'm sure a very sweet woman. However, her gown and especially the overall styling was ATROCIOUS! Let's begin with the "I'm a Disney Princess" Prom Dress style of this white gown. And then, what is up with the long gloves???!!! It's not 1968, darling. She was very Retro and trust me, not in a good way.

Miss World Serbia Milica Vuklis: Alright girl, we can see you are one hot, sexy contestant; I get it. Milica has a gorgeous face but why, oh why does she ruin it all with this TACKY-LICIOUS hi-lo golden colored gown. It's not the hi-lo I dislike, it's the focus on her smooshed boobs, the feathered trim at the hem (really??!!), the fact that I can see the tacky feathered trim from the inside...and yes, then there are those black and nude heels. One. Hot. Mess.

Miss Bosnia and Herzegovina Isidora Borovcanin: Three words--Cha Cha Queen. The crinkled rosette ruffled hi-lo skirt, the "Carmen" figure skating costume design...the tacky black heels; it's just too much. She's very pretty and I can understand how she made it into the Top 20 of the "Miss World 2014 Top Model" but...this gown is a hot mess. I can't even continue after typing "crinkled rosettes". Seriously.

Miss Latvia Liliana Garkalne: Bland. Bland. Bland. Nude colored top with black messy tulle skirt. This is someone who does not want to be bothered, style-wise; it's sad and depressing. She looks like she's attending a semi-Goth like New Year's Eve Party...and still does not want to be noticed.

I think on an olive-skinned, dark haired beauty: YES. On her above, no.

Miss Martinique Anais Delwaulle: Three words--Bless. Her. Heart. This pink tulle and sequin hi-lo style dress is a tacky mess. Has this woman seen what actual actresses and models wear to red carpet events? And those gold stripper glitter pumps??? How do you say "Huuuuuney???!!!" en Francais? Well, at least she was smiling through it all. Let's just hope she got that for FREE.

Miss Nigeria Iheoma Nnadi: Barbie Madness. The cheap-looking organza, the back tulle detail and the solid-to-sheer gown detail...it's just TOO MUJCHEEY. I LOVE this color but I hate when it's used in such an overtly non-edited tacky way; there's just way too many things going on and NONE of it makes any style sense, unless she is performing a Barbie segment on a Princess Cruise Ship.

Miss South Sudan Awien Kuanyin-Agoth: Awien made my"Best of 2014 Pageant Gown List" and yet, she still made the "Uh Oh" list here with this dress she wore for the Miss World Top Model/World Fashion Designer Dress presentation. While I think the fabrication on this dress is interesting, it's WAAAY too short and the styling is completely off. There's no need for that necklace and especially those style of shoes; those shoes belong to a business outfit not a gown. Well, at last she MAJORLY redeemed herself at the Finals.

Miss Switzerland Dijana Cvijetic: Can you say "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding"? This is all things a mess. Let's just begin with the too-short hi-lo strapless sequined bustier and iridescent organza design. There's so much polyester in this that I am really afraid when anyone lights a match near her. And then, there's those awful black platform peep-toe heels. I could see those in a sexy very fitted black pencil-skirted suit a la Kim Kardashian. But here, it's Tacky-Licious. Oh well, at least she looks happy, and her hair and makeup were good!

Here's to a (hopefully) FABULOUS and (Good) Fashionable Beauty Pageant Gown New Year!
